EP2338-2002 - Introduction

EP2338-2002 - Introduction 1:

The EP2338-2002 EtherCAT Box has eight digital channels, each of which can be operated either as inputs or outputs. It is not necessary to configure whether a channel (pin 2 and pin 4 of the M12 sockets) is to be used as input or output. The input circuit is permanently connected to the output driver internally so that a set output is also automatically displayed in the input process image.

The inputs have a 10 µs filter. The outputs process load currents up to 0.5 A, are short-circuit proof and protected against polarity reversal. The sum current of all outputs is limited to 4 A.
The connected sensors and actuators (pin 1 of the M12 connector) as well as the input and output circuits are supplied via US for connections X01 and X02, while connections X03 and X04 are supplied via UP.
The signal status is indicated by LEDs; the signal interface is via screwable M12 connectors.

Notice

Damage to sensitive signal transducers due to current peaks

The protective circuit of a digital input can cause an inrush current peak of well over 2 mA during the switching operation. This current spike can damage sensitive signal transducers such as reed switches.

  • When using sensitive signal transducers, insert a series resistor before the digital input to reduce the inrush current peak. E.g. 1 kΩ
