Installation

The system requirements for the engineering PC and the runtime PC are described below. Next, we will describe how to install TwinCAT Build 4026 or higher using the TwinCAT Package Manager, and how to install TwinCAT Build 4024 using the setup program.

Please note that TwinCAT 3.1 Build 2026 or higher (TwinCAT Package Manager installation) is required to use the full range of features of the TE1401 product.

System requirement

In the following, a distinction is made between the engineering PC and the runtime PC.

System requirements on the engineering PC

System requirements on the runtime PC

Installation 1:

Built objects can be easily forwarded

TwinCAT objects built on an engineering PC (or Build Server) can be easily forwarded to other people. They only need the TwinCAT XAE development environment in order to use the created objects (TcCOM or PLC function blocks) in a TwinCAT solution.

TwinCAT Package Manager: Installation (TwinCAT 3.1 Build 4026)

Detailed instructions on installing products can be found in the chapter Managing TwinCAT software in the TwinCAT 3.1 Build 4026 installation instructions.

Install the following workload to be able to use the product:

Installation 2:

The procedure described below is also necessary after updating the TE1401 product.

The TE1401 product is installed within the TwinCAT folder structure and is therefore separate from the MATLAB® installation. To use the functions from TE1401 in your version of MATLAB®, you must register the TE1401 installation with your MATLAB® installation.

To do this, launch MATLAB® with administrator rights and run the installation script using the following command in the MATLAB® Command Window:

run(getenv("TWINCAT3DIR") + "..\Functions\TE14xx-ToolsForMatlabAndSimulink\SetupTE14xx.p")

A pop-up window will then appear where you can configure basic settings. You can then use the functions of the TE1401 product in your MATLAB® installation.

In the next step, complete the initial setup of the software, and then take a look at the quick start guide.

If you want to create a TwinCAT project and use TwinCAT objects that have already been built, install the following workloads:

Setup: Installation (TwinCAT 3.1 Build 4024)

The system requirements (engineering PC) have been met. Please note in particular that a supported version of Visual Studio® must be installed with the Desktop development with C/C++ option, and that integration with the corresponding Visual Studio® has been completed.
You have administrator rights on your system. Without administrator rights, you must perform Step 4 after every (re)start of MATLAB®.
1. Start TwinCAT Tools for MATLAB® and Simulink® setup to install the TE1401.
2. Follow the instructions in the setup window.
The TE401 is installed within the TwinCAT folder structure, which means that the TE1401 installation is separate from your MATLAB® installation. To use the functions from TE1401, you must register the TE1401 installation with your MATLAB® installation. Carry out the following steps to do this. These steps are also necessary after updating the TE1401 product.
3. Launch MATLAB® with administrator rights.
4. Run the command below in the MATLAB® command line to start the installation script.
A pop-up window will then appear where you can configure basic settings. You can then use the functions of the TE1401 product in your MATLAB® installation.
run(getenv("TWINCAT3DIR") + "..\Functions\TE14xx-ToolsForMatlabAndSimulink\SetupTE14xx.p")
