External braking resistor - AX2090-BW5x 1:

The external braking resistors of the AX2090-BW5x series are able to convert the regenerative energy generated during braking of a servomotor into heat. The built-in temperature switch enables the system to respond immediately to any overload of the braking resistor through analysis in the AX5000 or the PLC. All braking resistors of the AX2090-BW5x-xxxx series are UL and CSA approved.

Destruction of the equipment

To avoid destruction of the braking resistor and possible consequential damage, the following must be observed:

  • Do not connect the braking resistor in parallel to several devices.
  • For devices whose DC links are connected, an additional connection is required to connect an external resistor. This additional connection is only available on the AX5021 brake module and the AX5140, AX5160 and AX519x devices.
  • Monitor the built-in temperature switch to ensure a controlled stop and shutdown of the machine in case of an overload of the braking resistor.
