Real-Time
The axis calculations of TwinCAT MC3 can be distributed across multiple CPU cores as required. Each axis is assigned to a cyclic task. A task can be assigned to multiple axes. Cycle times and priorities can be set based on the assignment of axes to a task. Movements can be synchronized across all CPU cores in use.

The assignment of tasks to CPU cores takes place in the TwinCAT project under SYSTEM > Real-Time > Settings. To display the current CPU core configuration of the target system, click Read from Target. The tasks can then be distributed across the appropriate cores.
To change the CPU core configuration of the target system, click Set on Target and select the desired distribution of divided and isolated cores.
Even on the same CPU core, axes with different cycle times can be operated by assigning them to different contexts. The “fastest” axis therefore does not determine the cycle time for all axes. This allows for optimized utilization of a CPU core - even with only a few axes.
