Adapting the CE standard image
The CE devices are delivered with a standard CE Image containing general settings such as screen resolution, DHCP and so on. The procedure to change the basic settings or the basic behavior of a standard CE image is described below.
In principle, the settings can be made on the CE device using dialogs. However, if the modified image is to be used on several CE devices, it makes sense to make the settings directly in the registry and to distribute the image to the devices afterwards. This avoids having to configure every single device.
The modification is only necessary once and enables simple handling when using on several CE devices, especially when updating image versions:
Example list
In the list of examples you will find information on how the settings for FTP, RAS, regional settings, taskbar, timebase, device name, screen resolution and wallpaper can be made.
NOTE:
Some reg files are independent of the hardware platform and can thus be loaded to CX1020 or C69xx devices (operating system settings, wallpaper, FTP, etc.).
Other settings (such as IP address, screen resolution, etc.) may differ on the devices.
All possible modifications listed there can be carried out each time the CE device is started, or once when creating a standard registry:
Examples of registry settings:
- Creation of specific screen resolutions
- Network information such as TCP/IP address
- Device name
- Hiding the standard shell
- Starting customer-specific applications
- Starting the RDP client (Remote Desktop Client for automatic connection to the XP station)
- Configuration of the SNTP (Simple Network Time Protocol)
- RAS Server
- FTP Server
- Defining your own wallpaper
- TwinCAT-specific settings such as ADS routes
- Support for the audio modules
- ....
All types of user management that are required for NTLM user authentication
- Add/remove users, password for RAS Server
- Add/remove users, password for access to FTP Server and SMB Server (public folder)
