Putting EtherCAT mode into operation

In EtherCAT mode, the CU1521-0020 is used as an EtherCAT junction or as a 3-port junction with media converter function.

All three ports X1, X2, and X3 are in operation in the order indicated by the rotary switch.

The CU1521-0020 can be used as a 2-port media converter or as a 3-port junction.

100 Mbit EtherCAT is supported (as of 2025), EtherCAT G is in preparation.

The ports X1/X2 can be equipped with different SFPs, at least one SFP is required.

Use a 100 Mbit SFP with 100BaseX remote station.

1 Gbit SFP with SGMII remote station.

Only 100 Mbit remote stations can be connected to port X3 (RJ45).

As of HW02, diagnostic data from the plugged SFP modules is available in EtherCAT mode.

For robust SFP diagnostics, place the CU1521-0020 or the SFP diagnostics in a separate SyncManager. In addition, monitor wcState to determine the validity of the process data. The details of the diagnosis can be found at SFP diagnostics during operation (DDM).
