API Differences

The topics in this section describe the API differences between TcHmiSrvExtNet and TcHmiSrvExtNet.Core.

TcHmiSrvExtNet.Core was introduced to replace the former TwinCAT HMI server extension API TcHmiSrvExtNet.
To ensure backward compatibility with existing TwinCAT HMI server extensions, TcHmiSrvExtNet.dll is still shipped with this release.
We strongly recommend to use only TcHmiSrvExtNet.Core for developing new TwinCAT HMI server extensions from now on, as stability, performance and usability have been improved in the new TwinCAT HMI server extension API.

We also recommend to migrate your existing TwinCAT HMI server extensions to use the new TwinCAT HMI server extension API TcHmiSrvExtNet.Core instead of TcHmiSrvExtNet.
See the instructions on How to migrate from TcHmiSrvExtNet to TcHmiSrvExtNet.Core or take a look at the detailed API differences between TcHmiSrvExtNet.Core and TcHmiSrvExtNet Version 1.10.1018.48.
