Overview
With the TF6280 TwinCAT 3 EtherNet/IP™ Adapter function, you can parameterize up to 8 EtherNet/IP™ adapters in combination with a network-capable Beckhoff PC with a physical interface. This creates a virtual MAC address that you can use to operate up to 8 EtherNet/IP™ adapters on one PC via an Ethernet interface.

The TF6280 TwinCAT 3 EtherNet/IP™ Adapter function enables data exchange with an EtherNet/IP™ scanner; both multicast and unicast are supported. The TF6280 TwinCAT 3 EtherNet/IP™ Adapter function can also behave like eight EtherNet/IP™ adapters.
For example:
- one scanner can be connected with eight adapters
- up to eight scanners can be connected with eight adapters
More data can thus be transported or the scanners can be operated at different cycle times.
In an EtherNet/IP™ network, the TF6280 behaves as an adapter device and no further configuration via an EtherNet/IP™ scanner is necessary. The configurator in TwinCAT 3.1 is used for the configuration, e.g. by specifying the IP settings and the number of data. In the EtherNet/IP™ scanner, the data must be set exactly as it is in the adapter so that a connection can be established.
EtherNet/IP™
EtherNet/IP™ (Ethernet Industrial Protocol, EIP) is a real-time Ethernet protocol, which was disclosed and standardized by the ODVA (Open DeviceNet Vendor Association). This protocol is based on TCP, UDP and IPv4.
