Application example

The example below shows how this function works. The example shows the axis at standstill, which means that the distance sensor does not detect any changes in the surface. Distance control is in “CONST_DIST” mode.

The next figure shows an axis that tends to oscillate strongly when at rest. The colour turquoise corresponds to the actual position and red to the command position. If distance control were not active, the CNC would not output any changes to the command positions (left-hand side). The red curve would then be at 0.0. However, the strong oscillations in the axis (shown in the turquoise curve) are also detected by the distance sensor and transferred to distance control. This causes the axis to be additionally excited when distance control is active.

Axis oscillation can be compensated for in distance control by coupling the motor encoder. Despite strong oscillation, distance control only detects and reacts to actual changes in the workpiece surface.
