VPN - Automatic Link Connection (CE)

Follow these instructions, if you want your Windows CE - PC to connect automatically with a VPN (virtual private network) after booting:

Install a VPN Dialup access

Here you find detailed information to install a VPN Dialup access under Windows CE.

Set up Autostart

Open the Beckhoff Startup Manager under Windows CE6:

VPN - Automatic Link Connection (CE) 1:

No Startup Manager under Windows CE5

The Startup Manager is not available under Windows CE5. See this link for more information on setting up Autostart in Windows CE5.

 

Create a new Autostart entry by clicking on "New":
VPN - Automatic Link Connection (CE) 2:

Assign a name and select as "Type: Shell Command". Optionally, you can enter a description and confirm with OK.

 

Activate the autostart:

Switch to the "Shell Command" tab:

Enter the path to the Beckhoff tool CxStartRas as "Shell Command". Default: \Hard Disk\System\CxStartRas.exe

The name of the VPN connection, the user name and the password, separated by a space, must be passed as parameters.

Control parameters

Under "Start/Control Panel/Network and Dial.up Connections" you can control the parameters.

 

You can test the connection via the "Start" button or adjust it via "Configure".

After the successful configuration, save your autostart settings and exit the program with "Exit":

You have set up the automatic VPN. With the next boot, the operating system will try to establish your established VPN connection automatically.

Disconnect

If you want to disconnect an established connection, call the "CxStartRas.exe" program with the VPN connection name and "/disconnect" as parameter in the command line.
