Installation of updates
If the information gathered indicates that an update should be installed, various processes are possible for installation. Online installation is not recommended, as it is not possible to select individual updates. If the Windows Update service is used to search for available updates online directly from the operating system, non-verified updates can also find their way into the operating system. The following options are more suitable.
(1) Offline installation
You can use the Microsoft Update Catalog to download updates:
- Search for the update by KB number.
- Download the update to get a MSU file for offline installation.
- Install the MSU file on a local IPC.

(2) Installation via update management software
There is different software for update management. Microsoft's own solution is called Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). The updates can be released from a server individually for certain IPCs or groups of IPCs. The identification of updates can take place again over the KB number.
