Saving the key

The recovery key is generated when BitLocker is enabled on a system and the data carrier is encrypted. There are several recovery key locations that can be set when BitLocker is enabled.

You can save the recovery key to your Microsoft account, save it as a file or print it.

Saving the key 1:
BitLocker recovery key; location.

For example, you can save and archive the recovery key as a file on a Beckhoff BST stick. Access to recovery keys should be limited to authorized individuals.

Proceed as follows:

1. When enabling BitLocker, select Save to a file to save the recovery key as a file.
2. Connect the BST stick to your Industrial PC and follow the instructions.
3. Select a suitable directory on the BST stick as the storage location.
The recovery key is saved as a text file on the BST stick.
