Updates

Regular updates are important because they primarily close known security vulnerabilities. You should review security updates promptly and install them in the system once they have been successfully validated. Beckhoff provides updates for the basic system and all other software components via the public package servers that are preset in each system.

For a system update, you should proceed as follows:

1. If possible, first test the update on test hardware to ensure it works properly with your own programs and the hardware you are using.
2. Back up the system so that you can restore it to its previous state in the event of unexpected behavior (see Recovery Options).
3. First, update the package information, and then view the packages that can be updated. Next, update the desired package or the entire system.

You can update the package information using the following command:

sudo apt update

You can view the packages for which updates are available using the following command:

apt list --upgradable

You can then update a single package using the following command:

sudo apt install

If you want to update the entire system, you can use the following command:

sudo apt upgrade
