Brake control
The drive controller can automatically activate a holding brake integrated into the motor based on the drive's operating state:
- When the control is activated, the brake is released. After the brake is energized, a configurable delay (Release delay) is applied to ensure that the brake opens completely. Only after this time has elapsed are the motor's movements enabled.
- When the controller is deactivated, a setpoint speed of 0 is initially requested. Once the vehicle has come to a standstill, the brake is applied. The drive controller then remains active for a configurable period of time (Application delay) to ensure that the brake closes completely before the shutdown occurs.
In addition, the brakes can be controlled independently of the drive controller (Enable manual override).
Enable brake control
In parameter 2004:18/2804:18 (channel 1/2), Brake Output Features, you can enable the brake control and choose the digital output to be used for brake control.
Configure
Configure the brake control using the parameters in objects 0x2004/0x2804, Brake Settings Ch.1/2; see chapter Configuration objects.
Diagnostics
The requested state of the motor brake can be read via the Actual motor brake state parameter using the CoE or process data. This object also reflects the effects of all override functions. However, the drive controller cannot verify whether the motor brake is actually energized and open; in other words, cable breakage, short circuits, etc., are not detectable in this object.
Error reaction
In the event of a fault or an emergency shutdown, after receiving a request to stop the motor, the drive controller waits until the motor has actually come to a standstill before applying the brake. A configurable maximum delay time (Emergency application timeout) limits the time until the brake is applied.
