Installing and removing the contact protection cover

WARNING

Installing and removing the contact protection cover 1:

Risk of injury due to electric shock/arcing/burning

Please note the following information on the EL3008-00xx contact protection cover!

  • If the terminal is used to measure voltages > 300 V to ground, the contact protection cover must be installed.
  • Please also note the information in the chapter “Safety instructions”!
  • The insulation of the cable fed into the contact protection cover may only end inside the cover.
  • The contact protection cover does not provide strain relief for the cable.
The cable must also be secured with an effective strain relief outside the housing.
  • Protection against accidental contact is only guaranteed if an undamaged cover is used. If the contact protection cover is damaged, it must be replaced (spare part via Beckhoff Service: ZS9100-0005).

Installing the contact protection cover

1. Check the cover for damage. If it is damaged, it must not be used (see the note above).
2. Insert the supply lines into contact protection cover.
3. Wire the terminal as described in the chapter “Notes on connection technology”.
4. Place the contact protection cover on the plug so that its latching lugs engage the guide rails of the plug. Slide the contact protection cover onto the front of the module housing.
5. Then slide the contact protection cover upwards until it audibly engages (see red arrows in the figure). There must be no diagonal gap all around, see figure.
6. Place the connecting cables in the cable gland on the underside of the contact protection cover and close the cover.

7. Check the correct positioning of the cover
The cover must rest straight on the housing, there must be no visible gap between the housing and the contact protection cover.
The cover must be pushed up so that the lower edge of the terminal housing front is visible from below. If the contact protection cover protrudes beyond this edge, slide it upwards accordingly.

Notes on removing

  • The contact protection cover cannot be opened or removed without tools. A screwdriver (e.g. Beckhoff ZB8700) can be used to remove it.
  • Ensure that there is sufficient clearance above the contact protection cover to other parts of the system so that a screwdriver can be inserted vertically into the mounting opening (see figure “Mounting area” below).
1. Press a screwdriver vertically into the mounting hole on the top of the contact protection cover to release the latch.
2. Slide the contact protection cover down as far as it will go and then pull it off the module housing.

*) The mounting area for removal with a Beckhoff screwdriver (ZB8700) is at least 75 mm.

Opening the lid

1. Open the lid of the contact protection cover.

WARNING

Installing and removing the contact protection cover 7:

Lid hinge for maintenance purposes only

The lid hinge is designed as a film hinge with a thin plastic area. It is designed for infrequent use as a maintenance hinge (guide value: 10 openings over the service life).

  • Avoid frequent opening.
  • When working on the contact protection cover (especially after opening the cover), check the film hinge for damage.
  • If the hinge is damaged, the cover must be replaced, especially if cracks are present even in partial areas (see notes on fitting the contact protection cover).
