Areas
For addressing a table it is important to specify which area is to be addressed, since the Beckhoff Device Manager is subdivided into different areas:
Area code | Name | Meaning |
---|---|---|
0x1 | General Area | The General Area contains various general data of the IPC. |
0x8 | Configuration Area | This is where the individual modules and associated information are created. |
0xB | Service Transfer Area | The Service Transfer Area offers functional access. |
0xF | Device Area | This is where the IPC diagnostics enters information to indicate which modules are automatically detected on startup, depending on the hardware and software, for example. In contrast to the Configuration Area, the Device Area does not consist of subordinate modules, only of individual tables. |
When addressing a table, the first 4 bits represent the area (see also Description of the information model).
