Connection via UPS-OCT
A special feature of the Beckhoff CU8110-0120 UPS is UPS-OCT (One Cable Technology) as a communication technology between UPS and industrial PC. The two connecting cables (+24 V, 0 V) between the industrial PC and the UPS are used simultaneously for the power supply of the industrial PC and for bidirectional, modulated data transmission. This means that supply and communication are realized via a single cable.

Only the U1out interface of the UPS supports UPS-OCT communication. If you want to use UPS-OCT technology, the industrial PC used must also be UPS OCT-capable.
Special features of UPS-OCT wiring
For UPS-OCT, a special shielded power cable of type C9900-K90x is required. Cable lengths of up to 10 m are supported. The cable shield must be properly connected on both sides:
Special features of the industrial PC:
- Connect the cable shield on the UPS side to ground (⏚)
- Connect the cable shield on the industrial PC side to the grounding screw using an O-ring
- The shield must not be connected to GND of the power supply connector
- Cable interruptions (e.g. through passive terminals or distributors) are not permitted
- Parallel loads must not be connected, no second industrial PC or embedded PC as an additional load)
Notice | |
Communication errors and malfunctions Simultaneous use of UPS-OCT and the PC-ON input on the industrial PC can lead to unpredictable malfunctioning of the UPS and the connected PC.

Special features embedded PC (CX series):
- Connect the cable shield on the UPS side to ground (⏚)
- Connect the cable shield on the embedded PC side to the designated spring-loaded terminal (⏚)
- Cable interruptions (e.g. through passive terminals or distributors) are not permitted
- Parallel loads must not be connected (e.g. no bridges between Us and Up on the embedded PC side, no second industrial PC or embedded PC as an additional load)
Status display
An active UPS-OCT connection is both displayed in the Beckhoff UPS software and signaled via a green status LED on the CX and IPC side.
