Putting Ethernet mode into operation
In Ethernet mode, the CU1521-0020 works as a 2-port media converter between X1 (SFP) and X3 (RJ45).
Only ports X1 and X3 are active.
Different Ethernet transmission rates can be applied to X1 and X3: 10 Mbit/s, 100 Mbit/s or 1 Gbit/s.
The device operates according to the store-and-forward principle.
Port X1 must be equipped with a suitable SFP.
Link loss forwarding is supported; the link loss is reported in the direction indicated by the arrow.
The transmission rates of X1 and X3 result from the switch position, the SFP used and the connected remote stations.
The transmission rate of the port to which the arrow is pointing is reduced to the speed of the other port in the CU1521-0020.
Fig.46: Transmission modes according to switch position in CU1521-0020 according to switch positionTransmission rates in switch position 6 (X1 -> X3)
In switch position 6, the transmission rate of the X1 remote station determines the data transfer rate of port X3.
Transmission rate of the X3 remote station (RJ45) | X1 remote station 1 Gbit * | X1 remote station 100 Mbit | X1 remote station 10 Mbit * |
|---|---|---|---|
1 Gbit | Link-A: 1 Gbit | Link-A: 100 Mbit | Link-A: 10 Mbit |
100 Mbit | Link-A: 1 Gbit | Link-A: 100 Mbit | Link-A: 10 Mbit |
10 Mbit | Link-A: 1 Gbit | Link-A: 100 Mbit | Link-A: 10 Mbit |
* For remote stations on X1 with 1 Gbit or 10 Mbit Ethernet, a 1 Gbit SFP must be used (SGMII).
Transmission rates in switch position 1 (X3 -> X1)
In switch position 1, the transmission rate of the X3 remote station determines the data transfer rate of port X1.
Transmission rate of the X3 remote station (RJ45) | SFP in X1: 1 Gbit | SFP in X1: 100 Mbit |
|---|---|---|
1 Gbit | Link-A: max. 1 Gbit ** | Link-A: 100 Mbit |
100 Mbit | Link-A: max. 100 Mbit ** | Link-A: 100 Mbit |
10 Mbit | Link-A: 10 Mbit | Link-A: 100 Mbit |
** If the remote station on SFP port X1 is slower, its speed is taken over by the SFP in X1.
