Wiring
Correct wiring, of course, is essential to run any feedback device correctly. Depending on wether or not there are sense lines for the power supply there are 2 or 4 wires for the supply voltage:

For the position infomation there are the following signals. Incremental Sine/ Cosine signals are not provided by every encoder.
