Keyboard Layout Setup

Supported languages by the "Keyboard Layout Setup"

The Windows XP embedded default images for Beckhoff Embedded-PCs have already installed the keyboard layout / language support for English and German.

With the "Keyboard Layout Setup" more keyboard layouts can be added to the system.

Localized versions of the Windows XP embedded images for Beckhoff Embedded-PCs are also available. Please refer to Related Articles section to get further information.

With the additional keyboard layouts it is possible to read foreign text (e.g. with notepad) or to write / display symbols (e.g. with On-Screen Keyboard, Internet Explorer) that are not covered by the English and / or German language. In case of a missing keyboard layout the symbols will be replaced by default symbol (e.g. white rectangle, question mark).

The "Keyboard Layout Setup" does not contain yet all keyboard layouts that are included in the Windows XP Professional operating system.

The table below contains information about available languages and the supported languages by the "Keyboard Layout Setup". Available keyboard layouts are marked with " X ":

Text Services and Input Languages / Settings:

  • The frame "Default input language" shows the used default language on the system. This language is used by default by the applications (Notepad, On-Screen Keyboard, Internet Explorer, ...) to display the text.
  • The frame "installed services" lists the used languages and keyboard layouts. The entries in this frame have the following structure: A short description of the language (here: DE) followed by the name of the language and the country (here: German (Germany)). The used keyboard layouts are listed below the language entry (here: German). It is possible to use multiple keyboard layouts for one language.
  • The available keyboard layouts on the system can be added to each available language on the system .
  • To use the available languages and keyboard layouts on the system, they have to be added to the "Installed services" list by selecting "Add.." (see: red frame). By pressing the "Add..." button the selection dialog will be shown. (see: Figure 4)
  • The button "Remove" removes a selected keyboard layout or language (within all its keyboard layouts) from the "Installed services" list. This removing action does not uninstall the language / keyboard layout from the system. At least one language with a keyboard layout has to be in the list.
  • The frame "Preferences" contains buttons for configuring the "Language Bar" (see: Figure 5).
